Cairo Tour from Sharm - 1 Day Excursion by Plane
ABSOLUTLY AMAZING! And our guide was FANTASTIC!
We booked and paid online. We were picked up bright and early at 4:50am from our hotel, and then picked up some other couples from around Sharm, and went to the airport. We got our tickets, and were told where to go when we got to Cairo to meet our guide. We were also told how to get our return flight tickets. All very easy and stress free!
In Cairo we met our guide. She took us to the mini bus and we began our journey to the egyptian museum. She was really friendly and funny - giving us great detail of all the sights we passed on our way. We also stopped off on the way to take pictures of some big mosques.
The egyptian museum is in 'revolution square' and is protected by the armed forces. It's clear the people of Cairo are passionate about their history and traditions, and we felt completely safe here, and during our trip. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside the museum, but you could outside and there's plenty to see! she guided us around some of the museum explaining a few pieces, and we were able to go on our own for 45 mins after.
We then took a short boat ride across the Nile to our lunch-spot. This was optional at £10, but totally worth it! Lunch was buffet style and had something for everyone as well as some egyptian pastry deserts - nice if you have a sweet tooth!
After lunch it was time to make our way to the pyramids. We stopped off on the way at a Papyrus museum / shop. I recommend buying your papyrus here on your holiday, they are carefully hand painted and very beautiful, the assistants were able to tell the stories behind the pictures too! The majority of other shops sell printed papyrus and aren't as nice in quality.. figures in these can look pixelated and cartoonish!
It was a short drive from here to the pyramids where we had the option to go inside the BIG pyramid or to take a pony/camel ride. We were the only two in our group to take the camels (as a horse rider myself I could see the ponies were struggling to pull three people in a cart, up-hill, in the sand, and felt a bit sorry for them). The camels were lovely and we felt safe up on them. The camel guides took pictures of us with them and of the pyramids from a point a short distance away. A really good experience!! We were then able to go into one of the smaller pyramids and to take pictures right next to a bigger one!
We also saw the Sphinx and the mummification museum. She was giving amazing stories and information at every point during our trip. She was our photogrpaher at almost every stop too! She was truly BRILLIANT!
There are people trying ot sell you things everywhere, but they aren't too pushy or rude (in english anyway!). The guide was good at helping them, and us, if anyone wanted to buy from them, especially at the pyramids - we got a solid wooden cat goddess for £2, a total bargain as gift shops sell these for 10x as much!
We then went for some tea and coffee at a perfume factory. We were able to test lots of pure flower oils and had the option to purchase after. These were really reasonable at about £30 for 4 'small' bottles of pure oil which were actually quite big! I bought some small glass bottles at the markets in Sharm and decanted the oil into them as gifts for friends! It's something really different, and the smell lasts all day on your skin! Amazing!
After this, we went back to the airport to catch our flight home at about 7pm. The day was amazing and we learnt so much about egyptian history, the lives of people in Cairo, and their traditions - The guide was incredibly proud of her heritage and it was really beautiful to hear.
Please do visit Cairo from Sharm. This trip is the best value for money of all the excursions we looked at. Our travel operator sold a similar excursion for £180 - but it didn't seem to pack as much into one day as our guide and Your Tour did!
I'd do it again, 10 times! Find out for yourself and enjoy! :)
